Quinto álbum a solo do contrabaixista Gonçalo Almeida, gravado por Dirk Serries numa capela de um mosteiro em Brecht, Bélgica, em dezembro de 2022.

Constituído por duas peças originais, sensivelmente com a mesma duração, e assentes na base da improvisação, este álbum apresenta alguns desafios inerentes à escolha de composição, tais como a definição estrutural da peça. Contudo, como o próprio músico detém um total controlo no desenrolar da narrativa, ele próprio decide, ou vai decidindo, em tempo real o caminho a percorrer. Ciclos dá-nos duas faixas com um carácter meditativo, repetitivo e hipnótico. Almeida explora ao longo dos sensivelmente 40 minutos diferentes potencialidades do instrumento através do magistral uso do arco. Sob uma lenta evolução, desenvolve pormenores e fragmentos que se vão repetindo e articulando com outros registos apresentados ao longo da faixa, entre o grave e solene, o agudo e o cortante. A repetição é o eixo principal, que a espaços vai abrindo brechas através de ataques mais precisos, mas delicados ou numa ou outra ocasião com intuitos mais vigorosos.
Desta forma, há uma existência de tonalidades sonoras levando o ouvinte a crer estar na presença do que mais que um instrumento, quando na realidade tudo é retirado do seu contrabaixo e da sua mestria na arte do improviso.

Consisting of two original pieces, roughly of the same duration and grounded in the foundation of improvisation, this album presents some inherent challenges in terms of composition, such as the structural definition of the piece. However, as the musician has complete control over the unfolding narrative, he himself decides the path to take. "Ciclos" offers us two tracks with a meditative, repetitive, and hypnotic character. Over the course of approximately 40 minutes, Almeida explores different possibilities of the instrument through the masterful use of the bow. Under a slow evolution, he develops details and fragments that repeat and articulate with other registers presented throughout the track, ranging from the deep and solemn to the high-pitched and cutting. Repetition is the main axis, occasionally opening gaps through more precise but delicate attacks or, occasionally, with more vigorous intent.
In this way, there is an existence of sonic tones that lead the listener to believe they are in the presence of more than one instrument when, in reality, everything is derived from his double bass and his mastery in the art of improvisation.
