In 1996, the project underwent a reformulation in which it began to include other artistic areas, such as photography, sculpture and video, and the project is now called "União Latina Plastic Arts Award". The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in partnership with Caixa Geral de Depósitos (Culturgest), collaborates in this project, which currently occurs in two phases: first, a national jury selects four artists who stood out in the previous year in their artistic areas, inviting them to present their works in a group exhibition. In the second phase, an international jury chooses the winner based on this exhibition.
"Without pretending to be a discovery or consecration award, it has been providing an evident form of recognition both for the winning artists and for the others equally selected" - Jorge Molder. The exhibition took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation between April 7th and May 8th, 2005, with the participants in this eighth edition being Bruno Pacheco, Gil Heitor Cortesão, Ricardo Jacinto, and Rui Calçada Bastos. The following catalogue-book aims to present the works of these artists, accompanied by a biographical note.
